SC orders daily hearing of corruption cases with swift judgments

The Supreme Court, which had ordered the immediate establishment of 120 accountability courts in the country a day earlier, in a written order about yesterday’s hearing on Thursday said that the hearings of corruption cases should be held on a daily basis.
In this connection, the written order also directed the quarters concerned that the process of collecting and recording evidences must be expedited.
Moreover, it is mentioned that the accountability courts should announce verdicts swiftly and avoid delaying or postponing the hearing in the cases.
The apex court also directed the NAB chairman to ensure the implementation of these orders while the anti-graft body’s prosecutor general has been ordered to present the eyewitnesses on time.
As far as the Lakhra Power Plant case is concerned, the concerning accountability court has been ordered to announce its judgment within a week by recording the statements of the prosecution and defence witnesses till November 2.
Meanwhile, the accountability court registrar in Karachi will present the implementation report on these orders.
The Supreme Court passed the orders on the subject after Prime Minister Imran Khan recently said both the judiciary and the NAB must press ahead with the corruption cases, as he was of the view that the process was too slow and unproductive.
During his speech at a gathering of Tiger Force at Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad a few days back, Imran also said that the PTI government was ready to extend the necessary logistical support for achieving the purpose.
The focus of his entire speech was Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, as he vowed to bring the PML-N supremo back to the country, saying he won’t be spared.
