Lahore and its outskirts received rain late Monday night and on Tuesday morning, which turned the weather pleasant and brought smiles on people’s faces,  reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Met Office, on the other hand, forecast more rains for the city and its suburban areas during the next 24 hours.

Rains were reported from different parts of the city, including Thokar Niaz Beg, Allama Iqbal Town, Township, Faisal Town, Garden Town, Awan Town, Karim Block, Canal Road, Dharampura, Mughalpura, Samanabad, Ichhra, Gulberg, Lorry Adda, Walled City, other parts of northern Lahore and the areas located on Wahdat Road.

The minimum temperature in the city on Tuesday morning was recorded at 20 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was expected to go up to 32 degrees Celsius later in the day.

Breeze was blowing at the speed of 14 kilometers per hour, while humidity level in the air was recorded at 60 per cent.

The rain also improved the city’s ranking on the air quality index (AQI), which stood at 37, making it the 70th most polluted city in the world.

On the other hand, in view of thundershowers expected for different parts of Punjab, and hailstorms at some places, between April 23 and April 29, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General (DG) Irfan Ali Kathia directed the deputy commissioners of all districts of the province as well the concerned departments to remain on a high alert.

The PDMA DG said that all District Emergency Operation Centers’s staff in Punjab, including those working in the province’s Control Room, had been asked to remain prepared to deal with any eventuality. “Those sitting in the Control Room are keeping an eye on the situation 24/7,” he said.

He also advised people to stand at a distance from electricity poles as well as wires. “Please avoid going out in the open and stay in safe places to protect yourself from lightning,” he said, adding, “Protect your children too and stop them from going near the water flooding low-lying areas.

The DG also urged people to avoid travelling unnecessarily and if necessary drive their vehicles at a slow speed.

Kathia said that Pakistan was faced with an extraordinary situation due to climate change.

“In case of an emergency, people can contact us on our helpline number 1129,” he said.
