12kg train bomb defused by controlled explosion in Karachi

A bomb that was found in Awam Express at Platform No 2 of the Cantt railway station, Karachi last night has been defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The law enforcement agencies have tightened security at the station and its adjoining areas.
According to the initial report, the bomb contained around 10-12 kilograms of explosive material.
A timer and a 12V battery were also attached to the bomb.
According to the report, the BDS made the detonator and metal body of the bomb ineffective through a controlled explosion.
Last night, a suspicious bag containing a bomb, switches and other things was found in the Awam Express and the train staff alerted the law enforcement agencies.
After getting information, the Sindh Rangers, local police, and Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the spot and defused the bomb. The train came from Peshawar.
A couple of days ago the Pakistan Railways resumed the Awam Express service between Karachi and Peshawar after 17 months.
Last year, floods damaged the track of Awam Express, making the authorities shut the service. The restoration took one year and five months.
