The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered removal of Shahid Khattak from the provincial cabinet for adressing a public gathering in Nowshera.
The commission sought a report on the caretaker minister's political activities.
As a caretaker, he has violated his oath of not taking part in election campaigns and also the election act.
The commission directed the KP chief minister to oust him from the cabinet.
The ECP said that all caretaker governments are bound by law to fully cooperate with the commission for fair, transparent and impartial elections and thus, no caretaker government or minister is allowed to participate in any kind of election campaign. Legal action is to be taken against anyone from the caretaker government if they violate the orders.
However, Khattak said that he has not violated the election act or the Constitution as he talked about Pervez Khattak being corrupt and the corruption in various departments including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) by the previous government.
