Former Punjab minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan has announced that he will be parting ways with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he expressed grief over the May 9 riots, saying that they should not confront with state and its institutions.
He said the entire nation is saddened over the ransacking of military installations and other state institutions.
The former provincial minister said that decision to leave PTI was taken after incidents following his arrest.
Chohan lamented that the PTI chief Imran Khan did not utter a single word of sympathy for him, despite the number of sacrifices he had given for the party. He added that his family members were arrested and his house was ransacked at the behest of Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
He stated that Imran Khan’s silence over my arrest also forced me to review my political struggle.
Fayyaz Ul Hassan said that all the leaders will testify that he had asked PTI Chairman Imran Khan numerous times to discard the “policy of violence”
However, he expressed his desire to see Imran Khan as the Prime Minister once again.
He said that the PML-N members knew very well that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was connected with Imran Khan or with someone else.
He lashed out at a number of PTI leaders and the party chief for following anti-army policies.
Chohan has claimed that PTI chairman Imran Khan “trained” party supporters to “move towards” military installations during a rally on May 1.
Fayyaz ul Chohan said that except for him, no one else in the party opposed the ‘policy of violence’. “There was no one who could make Imran Khan understand that politics should be done with patience and tolerance,” he added.
“From the entire leadership, if anyone tried to stop this, it was Fayyaz Chohan. And this is why I was sidelined in the party for the last year.
“Someone had told Imran that I support the army a lot,” he alleged.
Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan made it clear that he is leaving PTI and not the politics and will continue to serve the people of Rawalpindi in a different way.
