PM forms committee to solve problems of Gilgit-Baltistan, notification issued

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee to solve the problems of Gilgit-Baltistan, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Thursday.

According to the channel, the notification of the committee has been issued and four federal ministers and three provincial ministers along with the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan are members of it.

As per the notification, the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan will provide secretarial support to the committee and making recommendations regarding the financial affairs of Gilgit-Baltistan are included in the main objects of it.

The committee will prepare recommendations regarding net hydel profit from Diamer-Bhasha Dam to Gilgit-Baltistan and a feasibility of setting up four additional districts (Tatal, Tanger, Rondo, Gops/Yasin) in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The committee will also prepare a recommendation of a comprehensive strategy to overcome the power crisis in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The committee will also propose a long-term sustainable plan for wheat subsidy which may include wheat price rationalization and targeted subsidy.
