The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has achieved the largest recovery in its 25-year history, saving Rs168.5 billion in the BRT Peshawar project, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Sunday.

According to a statement by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the recovery includes Rs108.5 billion saved through investigations and Rs31.5 billion through a rejection of claims in the International Court of Arbitration.

The probe, initiated in 2018, uncovered illegal contract awards and embezzlement. Contractors were found guilty of submitting fake guarantees and audit reports, and some received nearly a billion rupees without completing any work. As a result of NAB's actions, the project was completed at the original cost, saving an additional Rs9 billion.

The investigation also led to an out-of-court settlement, reducing damages to Rs2.6 billion, and all cases were closed by the Peshawar High Court. These savings will now contribute to public welfare projects.
