Haidri for ‘removing’ Fazl from JUI 

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Secretary-General Maulana Ghafoor Haidri has made a request for using the party’s registered name.

“Our party is registered as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan and Fazl should not be used while referring it,” he said.

In the regime of Gen Ziaul Haq over the Afghanistan war, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam split into two factions – JUI-F headed by Fazlur Rehman and JUI-S by Samiul Haq.

Samiul Haq’s assassination in 2018 paved the way for Fazl to plead before Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to get JUI-F renamed as JUI in March 2019.
