Justice Ali Baqar Najafi was appointed acting chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday. 

The Law Ministry has issued a notification in this regard after president’s approval. 

Justice Najafi has been appointed the LHC chief justice under Article 196 of the Constitution. He will assume charge on December 25 and continue as acting chief justice of the LHC until return of LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum from abroad. 

The oath taking ceremony for the acting chief justice will be held at the Lahore High Court’s Judges’ Lounge at 9:00 AM on December 2 and Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh will administer the oath. Judges working on the LHC principal seat will attend the oath ceremony.

They include Justice Shamas Mahmood Mirza, Justice Faisal Zaman Khan, Justice Masood Abid Naqvi, Justice Shahid Karim, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan, Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem, Justice Abid Hussain Chattha, Justice Anwar Hussain and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa.
