Addressing a press conference in Karachi, All Pakistan Kisan Ittehad Group Central Chairman Khalid Hussain Baath said that due to mismanagement of the government, 30 to 40 decline in wheat production is expected.
Khalid Baath told the federal government that if the farmers demands are not met then farmers will stage long march towards Islamabad.
He said farmers are facing crisis as the production costs was skyrocketing while average yield is record low.
Khalid Baath said previous year per maund wheat was Rs3900 but wheat was purchased between 2300 to 2600. Likewise, rice and sugarcane rates have not been fixed.
He said the mills owners fixed the rates arbitrarily and the rate was fixed at Rs400. He said sugarcane was bought from the farmers in between 250 to 350 rupees and Rs60 per maund was deducted from each trolley. He said due to the lack of cleaning of the canals, the water does not reach the tail end.
