Lahore police shut gates to woman tortured by in-laws

A married woman who has been subject to domestic violence at the hands of her husband and in-laws could not be able to register her complaint as police have refused to entertain her, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to Veesha, she got married to her cousin Awais in Gulshan Ravi two years ago. But her spouse and in-laws used to make her subject to torture.
She narrated that on Friday evening, her husband Awais, father in-law Ijaz and brothers in-law Waqas and Ahson beat her up ruthlessly and then locked her up in a room for several hours. She said she contacted her parents to save her from the brutality of her in-laws. They came and called Police Helpline 15 to rescue her, she added.
The victim woman said she went to Gulshan Ravi police station to register her complaint along with her father, brother and uncle at 11pm last night. She said she continued knocking at the police station door till 5am in the morning today but the police guard did not open the door. She claimed that the SHO was sleeping in the station but he did not listen to her.
She further alleged that instead of lodging her complaint, police were pressuring her to reconcile with her in-laws.
