Australia’s Pat Cummins creates history with back-to-back T20 World Cup hat-tricks

Australia’s fast bowler Pat Cummins created history in St Vincent when he made his second consecutive T20 World Cup hat-trick against Afghanistan during ICC Men's T20 World Cup matches, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Cummins first registered a hat-trick over two overs against Bangladesh on Thursday and the right-arm fast bowler completed the feat once again against Afghanistan late Saturday when he bowled Rashid Khan, Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib with three consecutive deliveries.

Cummins is the seventh player to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cup.

The hat-trick against Bangladesh was the first hat-trick by any bowler in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies and Pat Cummins is the second Australian bowler after Brett Lee to achieve a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.

However, in this match Australia was defeated by Afghanistan by 21 runs, this was the first victory of Afghanistan against Australia in any format. According to ICC data, it was just the eighth time that a bowler completed a hat-trick at a Men's T20 World Cup and the first time a player has achieved the feat on multiple occasions.

Cummins is already a member of an illustrious group of seven players to have taken a hat-trick at a Men's T20 World Cup, with Brett Lee (2007), Curtis Campher (2021), Wanindu Hasaranga (2021), Kagiso Rabada (2021), Karthik Meiyappan (2022) and Josh Little (2022) the other bowlers to have done so previously.

"I remembered that one," Cummins said after the innings break. "It's pleasant that I have played 100-odd games for Australia and now I have got two (hat-tricks) in a row."
