Life-saving, other drugs disappear from medical stores in country

Once again, life-saving and some other drugs have almost disappeared from medical stores in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.


Different types of insulin, inhalers and medicines prescribed for the treatment of psychological disorders have almost disappeared from the shelves.


Drug inspectors have informed 24News that 27 medicines, including insulin, are not available at stores in Karachi.


Similarly, they have disclosed that the situation is not encouraging in Islamabad either as there is a shortage of 30 medicines in stores inside the federal capital and the areas surrounding it.


Giving details, they have said that anti-biotics, drugs used for the treatment of people suffering from mental and respiratory diseases have vanished.


Similarly, the drug inspectors have informed, that injections used for the treatment of tetanus are also in short supply.


Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) officials, on the other hand, have denied there is an acute shortage of medicines in the country, saying there may be issues with the supply chain.


The officials have said that they conduct surveys on a weekly basis to make sure the availability of drugs in the market.


They have said that medical stores in the country have a large quantity of insulin.
