The water level is rising further due to flooding in the rivers of Punjab, 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday reported citing the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
“The Ravi River is in a low-level flood at the point of Head Balloki. The inflow of water at Head Balloki is 66,325 cusecs while the outflow is 41,425 cusecs,” the PDMA spokesperson said.
The administration of districts along the Ravi River has also been alerted while the water flow in the river at the points of Jastar and Shahdara is normal.
PDMA Director-General (DG) Imran Qureshi has instructed the administration to stay alert to deal with the possible flood situation.
“Section 144 has been imposed in areas along the rivers of Punjab. Bathing in the rivers, canals and nullahs has been banned completely,” Imran Qureshi said.
On the other hand, the Ravi River was diverted to India near Chandiawala Jastar in Narowal.
“Dozens of villages would have been affected by the Ravi River if an erosion occurred here,” said the deputy commissioner.
“By diverting the Ravi River to India, hundreds of acres of land will be unaffected and can be cultivated,” he said.
“By diverting the Ravi River, the crops of the farmers in nearby villages will also be protected. The crops of the farmers used to be damaged every time India released water in the Ravi River,” he added.
