The federal government and social media companies have reached an agreement under which these companies will set up their ‘virtual offices’ in Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the Ministry of Information and Technology officials, the federal government has finalized the social media rules under which social media companies, instead of opening their offices in Pakistan, will set up virtual offices.
Representatives of these companies will be present at these offices round the clock where they will process the government of Pakistan’s complaints.
The ministry officials have said that Social Media Rules Committee of the government of Pakistan has divided the controversial content into three categories.
The content included on the Red List will have to be deleted immediately, while that included on the Blue List will have to be removed 72 hours after a complaint is received.
Explaining further, the officials have said routine content has been included on the Green List.
They have further said that no separate Authority will be established for regulating social media, and that PTA will be the only body to regulate it.
