PA Speaker rejects Zubair's claim of Nawaz-Bajwa meeting, warns of legal action

Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan has refuted claims by former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair of any meeting or telephonic conversation between Mian Nawaz Sharif and former army chief General (Retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Monday.

Speaking to the media, Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan challenged Muhammad Zubair to specify when and where the alleged meetings between Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president Mian Nawaz Sharif and General Qamar Javed Bajwa took place in London.

The Punjab Assembly Speaker noted that immigration records could be checked to verify the claim and to ascertain the truth regarding the meeting between former premier Nawaz Sharif and Gen (Retired) Bajwa in London.

Malik Ahmad Khan emphasized that the parties involved have the right to take legal action against former governor Zubair’s allegations. He also said that Muhammad Zubair may face complications due to his statements.

Malik Ahmad Khan also noted that PTI members are demanding the formation of a judicial commission to investigate Muhammad Zubair’s statements.

Expressing disappointment in Muhammad Zubair's statements, Malik Ahmad Khan rejected the allegations and mentioned, "I did not expect such a thing from Muhammad Zubair."

A few days ago, former PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair alleged on a private TV program that prior to the no-confidence motion which resulted in the ousting of Imran Khan's government, former General Qamar Javed Bajwa had met former premier Mian Nawaz Sharif in London and proposed extending his tenure as army chief.

Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is a retired Pakistani army general who served as the tenth chief of the army staff (COAS) from 29 November 2016 to 29 November 2022.

Muhammad Zubair Umar has served in the past as a spokesman for Nawaz Sahrif and his daughter PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
