ECP has already sent a questionnaire to the PTI regarding intra-party elections.
According to the questionnaire, PTI had not held inter-party elections in 5 years therefore its administrative structure has finished.
ECP also questioned the current status of PTI as a political party.
As per the Election Act, a political party will be registered if the party submits a certificate within 7 days of the election, containing the date of the intra-party election, details of elected officials, election results and a copy of the declaration of results.
According to the Election Act, if the registered political party does not submit the documents within 60 days, including the details of the accounts, the signed list of 2,000 members and a copy of the identity cards, ECP can cancel the party’s registration.
ECP also questioned whether deregistration proceedings be initiated against PTI. Was the PTI General Body meeting held at the Electoral College of all the members at the federal, provincial and local levels? The PTI General Body appointed the Election Commissioner on January 31.
According to the PTI constitution, the party's National Council appoints the Election Commissioner, what is the status of appointing the Election Commissioner by the General Body according to the PTI Constitution?
Was the Chief Organizer appointed in the same General Body meeting? Was this chief organizer notified Chief Election Commissioner Rauf Hasan?
ECP questioned whether it is permissible to appoint a chief organizer on behalf of the general body? Can a party appoint a CEC? What is PTI’s position on 5 applications received regarding the PTI intra-party election?
The decision of the Election Commission was upheld by the Supreme Court. In the light of this decision, PTI does not have an election symbol. The Election Act imposes a fine on a party for not conducting an election, why should PTI not be fined?
