The caretaker government has pledged to ensure a fair and impartial environment for all registered political parties in the upcoming general elections.
This was stated by Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi, who addressed a press conference with Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori on Sunday.
Solangi said the caretaker government's term was slightly extended due to the approval of the new census results by the Council of Common Interest (CCI).
He cited Article 51 (5) of the Constitution, which requires the elections to be held according to the latest census after the delimitation of constituencies.
He said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was working on the delimitation process and would announce the preliminary results on November 27 and the final results on November 30. He added that the ECP would give 54 days to political parties for their election campaign, as per the Election Act.
He welcomed the ECP's announcement that the elections would be held in the last week of January, which he said ended the propaganda against the caretaker government.
He also defended Fawad Hassan Fawad, a civil servant who had served under various governments for over 35 years, and who had been arrested on corruption charges. He said Fawad had no choice over his assignments and that it was unfair to criticize him without any evidence. He also clarified that Fawad had no political affiliations.
He further expressed his commitment to seek justice in the Jan Muhammad Mahar murder case, which he said he had personally raised with the caretaker chief minister of Sindh.
