At least nine picnickers died and several others were injured when their van collided head on with a truck in Thatta, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The tragic accident occurred in Chhalia area of Thatta where the van loaded with picnickers and bound for Keenjhar Lake collided with a truck head on, leaving nine on board the van dead.

According to police, eight people died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The police have confirmed that the deceased, who were on their way to Keenjhar Lake for a picnic, hailed from Malir area of Karachi.

Some of the deceased were identified as Abdul Wahab, Abdullah, Tasbihullah, Noorul Wahab and Adnan. The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Makli for post-mortem examination. Later, the bodies were transported to Karachi, where six of them have been released to their respective families. However, the remaining three bodies have yet to be identified and have been removed to a morgue.

Police officials said the truck driver managed to escape from the scene following the horrible accident. 

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed sorrow over the sad incident and called for a report from the Hyderabad commissioner. He directed the relevant authorities to provide the injured with all necessary medical assistance.
