Large parts of Punjab, plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and upper Sindh were again blanketed by dense fog on Tuesday morning, prompting the closure of different sections of the motorway, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The fog was so widespread that it even engulfed parts of the port city of Karachi.
Spokesman for the Motorway Police (MP) Syed Imran Ahmad said that due to severity of the winter season, the duration of fog has also been prolonged.
He said that a section of the motorway connecting Sialkot to Lahore was closed for traffic as fog reduced visibility almost to nil.
Similarly, he added, M 2, between Lahore and Kot Sarwar, M 3, from Faizpur to Darkhana, M 4, from Pindi Bhattian to Pir Abdul Hakim, and M 5, from Sher Shah to Zahir Pir and then onwards to Rohri, had also to be closed for traffic.
The spokesman said that motorway was closed in order to ensure the safety of people.
He advised motorists to prefer travelling during the daytime. “Time between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM is best for travelling,” the motorway police said in its advisory, adding, “If commuting is really inevitable, motorists should switch on fog lights of their vehicles and drive at a slow speed.”
The spokesman asked road users to contact on helpline no 130 in case of an emergency or for information.
