College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan Council meets health ministers to enhance medical training standards

The 20-member Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, along with President CPSP Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, held a meeting with the Health Ministers of all Provinces. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the expansion of the scope of medical training standards and quality in the field of higher medical education, both at the district and divisional levels.


During the meeting, special focus was given to the implementation and expansion of Emergency Medicine in medical institutions affiliated with private, public, and Armed Forces. Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Punjab, and Dr. Jamal Nasir, Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Care Punjab, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Saad Niaz, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar, and Balochistan Health Minister Dr. Amir Muhammad Khan Jogezai participated in the meeting. Director General National Residency Program CPSP and Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Mahmood Ayaz, Director General Medical Education Prof Aamer Zaman Khan, Prof Muhammad Asghar Butt, Prof Muhammad Tayyab, Senior Teacher Prof Akhtar Sohail Chughtai, and heads of medical institutions, including Prof Sardar Al-Fareed Zafar, Prof Ayesha Shaukat, Prof Shamsa Humayun, Prof Zohra Khanum, Prof Bilquis Shabbir, Major General Adil, Prof Ashraf Zia, Prof Tayyab Abbas, Prof Waris Farooqa, Prof Syed Asghar Naqi, Prof Tipu Sultan, and Dr. Asad Aizaz Chattha, along with other CPSP Council members and office bearers from different provinces, also attended the meeting online.

Senior Vice President, CPSP, Prof. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi, welcomed the participants. The Director General Medical Education, Prof. Aamer Zaman Khan, invited Health Ministers to attend the 2024 International Medical Education Conference to be held in Karachi next month.


President CPSP Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal highlighted the contributions of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan at the national and international levels in the field of higher medical education. He briefed on CPSP's medical training policy, emphasizing the importance of Emergency Medicine and its expansion at district and divisional levels.


In this meeting, Treasurer Prof. Masroor Ahmed, Prof. Waqar Alam Jan, and Prof. Aisha Siddiqua also expressed their views. Health Ministers of all provinces appreciated the exemplary performance of CPSP at the national and international levels. They announced the provision of high-quality medical facilities at the district level while maintaining training standards and issued instructions for the establishment of Emergency Medicine Departments in medical institutions at the district level.


The ceremony was concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Irshad Waheed, Secretary CPSP, and Special Souvenirs were presented by the President CPSP, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, to the Hon’ble Provisional Health Ministers.
