President Arif Alvi has offered to play a “mediatory role” between political rivals, saying Aiwan-e-Sadr can host a grand dialogue only if all parties agree to talk, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Arif Alvi averred the President’s House can mediate dialogue between the political opponents but only when all parties want to sit at the table.
However, he said as President he does not have the authority to initiate any dialogue.
Talking to newsmen at President’s House on Tuesday, President Alvi said he did not have any objection to an early appointment of the army chief.
Arif Alvi said that in his opinion clear mandate is essential. He did not commit any treachery, if anyone has committed it, they should be held accountable, he added.
“I support all the political parties. No confrontation with Shehbaz Sharif government. I have not received any direction regarding prime minister’s confidence vote,” he said, adding he has not been in contact with Imran Khan for a long time.
Arif Alvi said it would be better if fresh elections were held as in the present circumstance no one had clear mandate.
He said he is not a supporter of the presidential system. “I am also not a supporter of giving presidents the power like 58-2B. Parliamentary system should go on as it is a tested one,” he maintained.
The president said he had not never violated the constitution nor committed any treason. “Whoever had committed treason Article 6 should be applied on him,” he declared.
Arif Alvi said Pakistan should not give its bases to anyone. The president said that the threatening cypher should be thoroughly investigated so that people can learn its reality. America does not want to sabotage its relationship with Pakistan, he maintained.
Arif Alvi added that the impression that he and the prime minister have a tense relationship is false. “A total of 74 summaries were sent to me since this government took charge, I signed 69 of them immediately,” he said. The rest of the summaries were not held back due to anyone’s pressure, he added.
The President said that he did not consult PTI Chairman Imran Khan over the NAB and EVM amendment bills.
