Karachi marriage hall owners give strike call after Eid

All Karachi Marriage Halls Association (AKMHA) on Sunday announced closing down all wedding halls after Eid Ul Adha to press its demands, reported the News HD TV channel.

AKMHA president Rana Raees in a press statement demanded former president Asif Zardari and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto take notice of the ongoing demolition of wedding halls in the city.

He said if the demolition of marriage halls is not stopped, the halls will be closed after Eid. “In the first phase, we will boycott the marriage ceremonies in Karachi and later marriage halls will be closed all over Sindh,” Rana Raees warned.

Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has started an action against 'illegal' marriage halls established across the city.

Rana said that if the authorities do not stop demolishing their marriage halls, the scope of the protest will be widened.

Rana Raees alleged that the administration is also demolishing legal marriage halls in the city.

Rana Raees despite the presence of all legal documents, marriage halls are being demolished continuously.

“Marriage halls are demolished without notice and legal permission,” Rana Raees said adding that there is fear of loss of labor's life due to operation in darkness of night.

The association president said thousands of families are being economically killed.

 “22 wedding halls were demolished in Shah Faisal Colony while more than 70 of our marriage halls were demolished across Karachi,” Rana Raees added.
