Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep concerns over the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens due to inflation, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a gathering at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday, he raised concerns about the current economic situation, stating that even individuals earning a monthly income of Rs 50,000 are finding it difficult to make ends meet.
He pointed out the challenges of sustaining economic growth when political instability and divisive tactics are prevalent. He emphasized that the nation needs unity and stability to overcome its economic struggles. “A robust political foundation is essential for national development and prosperity,” he asserted.
Nawaz Sharif also commended the invaluable contributions of the business community of Sialkot, recognizing their pivotal role in fortifying the bedrock of the national economy.
Addressing the multifaceted achievements during his tenure, Nawaz Sharif underscored the success not only of economic policies but also of foreign affairs strategies.
Nawaz Sharif stated that a certain individual, once entrusted with responsibilities, created chaos and disruption through divisive actions.
Nawaz Sharif also drew attention to the 2018 elections, pointing out that despite efforts to undermine his party, they emerged victorious. He lamented the subsequent deprivation of his government, which, according to him, had successfully addressed issues like load shedding and terrorism during its tenure.
He claimed that no adversary can ignore their presence on the political landscape. He reminisced about the period when his government initiated structural changes and achieved record levels of exchange in trade.
Nawaz Sharif noted the international acclaim received during his term, with institutions like the World Bank acknowledging the effectiveness of his policies. He highlighted the remarkable diplomatic achievement of having two Indian Prime Ministers visit Pakistan during his tenure.
Recalling the past, Nawaz attributed the country's significant losses to both inflation and the disruptive impact of protests.
He pointed out that the culture of protests, especially the long sit-ins (Dharnas), had inflicted considerable damage to the national economy.
The disruptive nature of prolonged protests has been a source of disruption and economic strain for the country, he added.
Nawaz Sharif questioned how the country could progress when its legs are being pulled in different directions.
He stressed the need for a sustainable and long-term economic plan to promote exports and encourage import substitution.
