The authorities have been able to obtain one more CCTV video footage which sheds more light on what happened prior to the suicide blast at the University of Karachi (KU) yesterday (Tuesday, April 26, 2022), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The investigators say it can be seen in the footage that a burqa clad woman is standing at the university premises when another woman, who later exploded herself, alights from a rickshaw and stands at a distance from the former.
Later, the woman in burqa walks up to the suicide bomber and talks to her who later walks up to the place where she ultimately detonated the suicide jacket.
The investigators say there the woman waited for the van, carrying Chinese teachers for nine minutes, and ultimately blew herself up when the van passed by her.
Four people, including three Chinese nationals – two women and a male – were killed and scores others, including foreigners and members of different faculties of the KU, were injured when a van parked inside the University caught fire after a powerful explosion on Tuesday.
Committee formed to probe suicide blast
A committee was constituted on Wednesday to probe into the suicide bomb blast that had rocked the University of Karachi (KU) yesterday (Tuesday, April 26, 2022), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the notification, DIG CIA will head the committee while SSP East, SSP Malir and SSP Anti-Violent Crime Cell will also be the part of it.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Pakistan Rangers have already formed committees, which are going ahead with collecting evidence from inside and outside of the university.
Rangers takes control of Karachi University
Rangers personnel took control of the Karachi University as all academic activities have been closed at the campus for today following the suicide blast on the Chinese teachers of the Confucius Institute of varsity that claimed four lives including two women Chinese nationals, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Rangers have been deployed at the Karachi campus and there will be no classes today at campus.
The suicide bombing targeted a van carrying Chinese academics near the Confucius Institute in Karachi University was later claimed by banned outfit.
“Due to today’s unfortunate incident on the university campus, all classes in the University of Karachi shall remain suspended on 27-04-2022 (Wednesday). Further there will be no public dealing,” stated a press release released by KU.
KU interim Vice Chancellor Dr Nasira condemned the blast and termed it as an attempt to weaken the bilateral ties between Pakistan and China and all such attempts will be foiled.
Rana Sanaullah to visit Karachi
On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah is due to reach Karachi today where he will chair a meeting of the officials of law-enforcement agencies (LEAs), police, Rangers and others.
