The Taxila police booked the woman subjected to brutality by a cop in a local court for pickpocketing along with her son, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Imtiaz Nasir was fired after a video of him slapping an elderly woman and pushing her to the ground went viral.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident occurred when the police officers were trying to arrest Basir Khan allegedly wanted in pickpocketing ‘incidents.

The police said that Khan and the woman, who was his mother, were resisting the arrest when the incident happened.

In the video, the ASI can be seen trying to keep the woman away from the driving door of an automobile surrounded by bystanders. Moments later, as the woman appeared to make a gesture of seeking forgiveness - possibly for her son - the enraged ASI slapped her and pushed her to the ground.

On the order of then chief minister Mohsin Naqvi, the CPO dismissed the ASE and issued a notification. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also expressed her resentment and ordered the police to protect the dignity of citizens.

The Taxila police nominated the victim woman along with her son in the case of pickpocketing on the complaint of a man namely Muhammad Saad Khan.

Saad Khan stated that he came to court and caught the son of the victim woman picking up Rs2,000 and his identity card from his pocket while the woman vanished from the scene.

He added he called the police for help and a ‘team consisting of Inspector Muhammad Sajjad and ASI Imtiaz Nasir and others’ who were coming out of a nearby courtroom showed up to help him.
