Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed his sense of elation when he declared that for the first time in country’s history, the Federal Board of Revenue has been able to collect Rs7,000 billion in tax collection till June 26, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sharing the news on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, the finance minister said: “For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the Federal Board of Revenue has collected Rs7,000 billion rupees in the form of revenue till June 26.

“It will increase further till June 30. God willing.”

For the past several months, the finance minister has been struggling to clinch a deal with the International Monetary Fund before the expiry of its programme on June 30.

The government has accepted almost all conditions of the global lender and even amended its budget as per the IMF wishes.

In the budget, the tax collection target has been increased from Rs9,200 to Rs9,415 billion as Rs215 billion new taxes have been imposed under the Finance Bill through further amendment in compliance with the IMF conditions.

Yesterday, the State Bank has also raised its policy rate to 22% as the country looks forward to the completion of the ongoing IMF programme.
