Islamabad Police have increased the penalties for the traffic rules violations and the Interior Ministry has issued a notification in this regard, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.
Effective immediately, the revamped fine system aims to instil greater compliance with traffic laws, reduce road accidents, and ultimately create a safer environment for all road users in the nation's capital.
Under the new guidelines, the minimum fine for traffic rule violations will be set at Rs 500. Motorcyclists will face a fine of Rs 1000 for overspeeding while motorcar drivers will have to shell out Rs 1500. Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators will be penalized Rs 2000, and Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) drivers will face a steeper Rs 2500 fine if caught speeding.
Motorists using vehicles with tinted glasses, a common sight on Islamabad's roads, will incur a Rs 1500 fine, while those exhibiting irresponsible driving behaviour will face a Rs 2000 penalty. The authorities have also set a stern precedent against underage drivers, with a hefty Rs 2500 fine awaiting those found behind the wheel illegally.
Illegal parking, a nuisance that often disrupts the city's traffic flow, will now result in a Rs 1000 fine. However, the penalty for the dangerous practice of one-wheeling has been significantly elevated to Rs 5000, a stark reminder of the potential risks it poses to both the rider and other road users.
Driving without the appropriate license has not been spared either. Motorcyclists without a license will be slapped with a Rs 1000 fine, while car drivers will face a Rs 2000 penalty. HTV and PSV vehicle operators, responsible for the safety of many passengers, will incur a steep Rs 8000 fine for this violation.
The new fines have come into effect following a vigorous campaign by the Islamabad Police, emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to ensure road safety. Authorities have urged citizens to respect traffic rules and avoid heavy fines while highlighting the critical role of traffic law adherence in preventing accidents.
