Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ehsanullah Virk has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court challenging the Election Commission's order for a vote recount in his constituency, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.
The petition will be heard by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal as an urgent case on August 29 at 9:00 AM.
Barrister Ahmad Pansuta will represent Ehsanullah Virk, who is the elected member of the National Assembly from NA-79 Gujranwala, a seat he won as a PTI candidate.
The petition challenges the Election Commission's decision to order a recount at the request of the losing candidate from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Virk's petition argues that the Election Commission lacks the authority to order a recount after the establishment of the Election Tribunal and that it cannot do so based on a prior application.
The petition seeks the suspension of the Election Commission's recount order until the final decision of the case is made. The Chief Election Commissioner and other relevant parties have been named as respondents in the petition.
