PML-N leader and former finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar has urged President Arif Alvi to “gracefully resolve the issue” concerning convening of National Assembly session, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to journalists outside the Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday, Ishaq Dar said the Constitution is clear on summoning of the National Assembly session following the general elections. “If the president wants to once again violate the Constitution, then it would mean that he does not want the House to convene,” he added.
Ishaq Dar said the president could have summoned the National Assembly on any day before Feb 29, the last day to call the lower house of the Parliament as per the law, but he delayed the process.
The PML-N leader maintained “I believe that the game being played with the Constitution is not a good tradition, the matter should have been handled gracefully.”
He reiterated that the Constitution was clear about convening of the National Assembly session.
Criticizing the objection of the Presidency on the summery of calling the opening session of the National Assembly which says that the NA session should be called 21 days after the election, Ishaq Darne has said the president wants to reform the constitution.
He added that if the President does not sign the summary, it means he does not want to call the NA session and for the reason Presidnet Alvi objected and sent the summary back.
Ishaq Dar warned that the constitution is being played with.
Answering a query, Ishaq Dar said there is an understanding between his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
