The Senate elections of 2024 have witnessed an unprecedented number of candidates withdrawing their nomination papers from Punjab as seven candidates elected senators unopposed including Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, reported 24NewsHF TV channel Wednesday.
Independent candidate Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, along with six others, has been elected unopposed to the general seat of the Senate.
This list includes Ahad Khan Cheema, Pervaiz Rasheed, Talal Chaudhary, Hamid Khan, Nasir Mahmood Butt, and Raja Nasir Abbas, who are now set to become senators without contest.
The withdrawals have significantly narrowed the field from 28 candidates vying for 12 seats representing Punjab. Among those who withdrew are Mustafa Ramday from the Technocrats' seat, and Shahzad Waseem, Musadiq Malik, Waleed Iqbal, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, and Ijaz Minhas from the general seats.
