Prime Minister rejects Bashir Memon’s allegations

Prime Minister Imran Khan has categorically denied asking Bashir Memon for conducting investigations against Justice Qazi Faez Isa. He rejected all allegations leveled by Memon were baseless.

According to 24News HD TV channel, the PM gave these remarks while meeting with senior journalists on Thursday.

On the occasion, the PM said nobody knew Bashir Memon before this. He said former DG FIA used to brief him regarding Omni Group-related JIT.

He said he never asked Bashir Memon to file cases against Maryam Nawaz, PML-N, or PPP.

"I had only directed Memon to investigate the iqama (work permit) case of PML-N's Khawaja Asif," the premier said.

"The decision to investigate the case of Khawaja Asif was taken during a meeting of the federal cabinet," the PM said, adding that he had directed Memon to investigate whether the country's former foreign minister was holding a foreign resident permit and withdrawing a salary from foreign sources.

The prime minister said that justice would prevail on Jahangir Tareen’s issue. He said the delegation, which met him on Tareen’s issue, asked him to form a judicial commission.

He said he never asked to file a case of terrorism against Maryam Nawaz on the issue of the picture of the first lady.

He said filing a reference against Qazi Faez Isa was not the jurisdiction of Bashir Memon so how could he ask him to do so? He said he only asked the former DG FIA to investigate Khawaja Asif’s Iqama issue.

The premier said the investigation team on Sugar Scandal was not changed. He said Dr. Rizwan was not removed however Abubakr Khudbaksh would also join him. “Shahzad Akbar has also not been sidelined. Ali Zafar will see whether someone is influencing the investigations,” he added.
