The returning officer (RO) of NA-44 has raised objections to the nomination papers of Ali Amin Gandapur and his brother Faisal Amin Gandapur, who are contesting the upcoming elections on PTI tickets, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.
The RO has given them time till tomorrow to remove the objections, otherwise their nomination papers may be rejected.
According to the RO, an objection was raised regarding Faisal Amin Gandapur's foreign citizenship, while Ali Amin Gandapur was questioned about various cases filed against him.
The lawyers of the Gandapur brothers argued that Faisal Amin Gandapur had renounced his dual citizenship before the 2018 by-elections and that Ali Amin Gandapur was a freeman as per the High Court order.
They also claimed that no citizen had raised any objection to their candidates and that Article 63 of the constitution did not apply to them unless they were convicted.
The RO asked them to submit a written affidavit regarding Faisal Amin Gandapur's dual citizenship and to provide records of Ali Amin Gandapur's cases.
He said he was asking for legal records for his comfort and that he would decide on their nomination papers after reviewing them.
Meanwhile, the nomination papers of Major Aminullah Gandapur, the father of Ali Amin Gandapur, and Mehnaz Ali, the wife of Ali Amin Gandapur, have been approved on NA-44. They are also contesting the elections on PTI tickets.
