Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif has laid stress on ‘special’ steps to cope with the challenges being faced by the country.

“Pakistan is badly wounded at this time. I have never seen such wounds in decades,” he said while addressing the party’s parliamentary session in Islamabad on Wednesday.

He urged all the political forces to toe the ‘special’ line. “Do your politics, opposition is also a part of politics, but don’t endanger Pakistan and the system.”

Pakistan would get rid of crises in a couple of years, he hoped, stressing: “Just two and half years will be tough. The upcoming government will have to make difficult decisions in the next two years.”

“In the current circumstances, Shehbaz Sharif is the best choice,” he said officially declaring him the candidate for the prime ministership. “The way he (Shehbaz) saved the country from defaulting is unprecedented,” the PML-N leader said.

He added: “Inflation is the ‘biggest problem’ in such difficult circumstances. “We have to provide the people with relief from it. We have to bring down electricity and gas tariffs.  We have to make Pakistan stand on its feet."

The three-time prime minister counted his feats, saying despite PTI sit-ins, the PML-N government continued to work for the country and come up to ‘all’ public expectations

He said the cases registered against him resulted in the country's troubles.

He said he wished every National Assembly, Senate and Prime Minister to complete their constitutional term.

The priority of his party-led coalition government will be to fix the economic problem as all the problems plaguing the country are linked to it.

The PML-N Supremo said his party members entered the National Assembly after a “tough fight”.

The former premier recalled the PML-N achievements during its previous tenures and the oppression it faced multiple times.

“But we have come to face people who I haven’t been able to understand even today,” Nawaz said in an apparent reference to the PTI founder Imran Khan.

Nawaz Sharif has said his party members entered the National Assembly after a “tough fight”.

“We have come to face people who I haven’t been able to understand even today,” Nawaz said in an apparent reference to the PTI founder Imran Khan.

On his arrival, he was welcomed by Prime Minister candidate Shehbaz Sharif and other members of his party upon his arrival at the National Assembly.

 Shehbaz slams PTI’s ‘hypocrisy’

In his address, Shehbaz Sharif took a swipe at President Arif Alvi for not summoning the National Assembly session.

“President Arif Alvi once again violated the constitution for not summoning the National Assembly session.

He came down hard on the PTI. “If the February 8 general elections were rigged how did the PTI win polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

“Nothing like this was ever seen in the history of Pakistan,” Shehbaz said.

“To bring the country out of crisis, we will need to make a lot of sacrifices.”

He said the party has a strength of 104 members in the National Assembly and added all the MNAs-elect from his party contested the February 8 general election on their own. He also thanked the independents who recently joined the PML-N.

He too listed the PML-N’s achievements during Nawaz’s tenure citing the multiple motorway projects and putting an end to loadshedding in the country.

The PML-N president presented a resolution, which stated that the party expressed confidence in Nawaz and paid tribute to the PML-N supremo. It also vowed to work for the country under the leadership of Nawaz.
