The success of the newly-elected Member of the National Assembly (MNA) belonging to the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) from NA-241 Karachi Mirza Ikhtiar Baig has been challenged in Sindh High Court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The petitioner took the plea in his application that the PPP’s elected Member National Assembly (MNA) has dual nationality.
The court issued a notice to the Advocate General and newly elected MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig.
The court has sought reply from all the parties on the next hearing.
Mirza Ikhtiar Baig is also a Canadian citizen, the petitioner said.
The petitioner further took plea that contesting elections despite holding dual citizenship is illegal and a violation of the Supreme Court order.
Mirza Ikhtiar Baig concealed dual citizenship and submitted false affidavit, petitioner said.
The petitioner requested the court that Ikhtiar Baig should be disqualified under Article 62, 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan for giving false affidavit.
