In a tragic incident, at least eight people of the same family including women and children lost their lives and 10 others got injured when a car and a passenger van they were traveling with fell into a ravine after a collision in the Gattidas area near Babusar on Friday.

According to reports, there were 14 people in a passenger Hi-Roof vehicle and four people in the motor car.

The ill-fated van was traveling toward Rawalpindi when it collided with an oncoming vehicle. The accident occurred in the Gattidas area, a famous tourist attraction near Babusar Top in the Diamer district of Gilgit Baltistan.

The impact of the collision caused the van’s driver to lose control, leading to the vehicle swerving off the road and plunging into a deep ditch.

The deceased victims were all members of the same family who hailed from Sahiwal.

The remaining 10 injured passengers were shifted to the Chilas Headquarters Hospital where an emergency has been declared.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Naran Hospital to complete the necessary formalities and procedures.

Authorities have already notified the relatives of the victims.  After the collision, both vehicles fell into a ravine. Women and children were included among the eight killed and injured.

According to rescue officials, a fire also broke out in the van.

Balakot DSP Saeed Jadoon feared that there would be more deaths. Rescue officials, Mansehra police, and Chilas police were on the site for relief activities.

The famous Babusar Pass, which connects Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was opened for traffic last month.
