Six people died and another eight injured when a chartered helicopter of Mari Petroleum Company Limited crashed due to a technical fault soon after its take-off in North Waziristan District on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to sources, the MI-8 helicopter carrying 14 people including three Russian pilots and a Pakistani crew member came down near Shiwa Oilfield.

The sources said the crash was caused by the engine failure as no evidence of any kind of sabotage was found.

The injured were rushed to CMH Thal from where they will be shifted in a helicopter, the sources said.

The technical fault was developed as the helicopter took off, the sources said, adding chopper’s tail-router hit the ground as it tried crash-landing.

An inquiry has been launched into the crash, the sources said.

A Mari company spokesperson confirmed that a helicopter operated by Mari Petroleum, a leading oil and gas exploration company in Pakistan, crashed in North Waziristan due to a technical fault in the
engine.

The crash occurred in a remote area of North Waziristan. Rescue teams were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The six injured individuals have been transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
