The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday took up hearing of the petition pertaining to smog remediation, and extended the order to stop trees cutting in the provincial capital, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Justice Shahid Karim commenced the hearing of the case and said that violators would face contempt of court charges. Moreover, he ordered halt to the Akbar Chowk flyover operation temporarily citing the ongoing PSL.

He remarked that PSL matches and new projects without completion of first projects affect the flow of traffic in the city.

The court also expressed its displeasure on environmental pollution, stating that no project should be started until the old projects are finished.

Member pf the Environmental Commission Hina Hafeezullah Ishaq and Syed Kamal Haider submitted a report on the court orders.

The court also rejected the plea to extend bakery closing hours during Ramadan.

Additionally, LHC prevented LESCO from felling trees in Lahore. Smog, according to Justice Shahid, poses a serious threat to Lahoriites' lives.

He mentioned that WAPDA officials also cut trees while straightening the lines.

He castigated the relevant officials for acting irresponsibly and failing to submit the report on ongoing projects and directed the Secretary Election Commission to submit a report on already ongoing developmental projects.

The court adjourned further hearing of the case till March 7.
