Historic Ice Hockey Tournament kicks off at world’s highest ground in Shandur

In a historic first, the inaugural Ice Hockey Tournament has kicked off at the world’s highest ground, Shandur, marking a momentous occasion in the history of winter sports in Pakistan.
The event, which is being held on the freezing lake of Shandur rather than the usual ground, is attracting over 100 players from both the women’s and men’s teams.
The tournament, organised under the patronage of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tournament Authority (PCTA), has received special attention from Zahid Chan Zeb, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who took a personal interest in making the event a reality.
The opening phase of the tournament witnessed a thrilling match between Lower Chitral and Upper Chitral, with over 40 players participating.
In addition to ice hockey, participants are also taking part in curling and speed skating events, showcasing the diverse winter sports culture of the region.
