Jamaat-e-Islami's (JI) sit-in protest against inflation and rising electricity prices has entered its fifth day, with a large number of party workers participating.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami have reached a deadlock as no progress has been made on demands.
Jamaat-e-Islami has warned that the government will be held responsible for any damage caused if their demands are not met promptly.
The party presented a 10-point charter of demands during the previous phase of negotiations. Another round of talks between the JI leadership and the government is expected today.
JI chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman addressed the participants of the sit-in on Tuesday and said the situation has become very difficult for traders and businessmen.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said his party launched the sit-in to give relief to the people, as an 18% tax has been imposed on general items, including food and drink items.
He said that due to the wrong economic policies of the sitting government, electricity prices are so high that no one can pay easily now.
