In a province-wide operation against fare overcharging, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered strict action to ensure transporters do not exploit passengers traveling for Eid. The crackdown, led by the administration, police, and transport department, has resulted in the recovery of Rs 1.1 million, which was refunded to passengers who had been overcharged.

As part of the grand operation, fines amounting to Rs. 2.3 million were imposed on transporters found guilty of overcharging. Authorities issued challans to 1,333 vehicles, while 264 vehicles were taken off the roads for violating fare regulations. Passengers expressed their gratitude, with many surprised to receive refunds for the excess fare they had paid. Elderly female travelers particularly praised CM Maryam Nawaz, offering prayers for her initiative.

To facilitate passengers, the Punjab government has set up a special helpline (99030222 and 042) to address complaints regarding fare overcharging. Additionally, the Eid holidays for transport department employees and officers have been canceled to ensure strict monitoring. Special squads will be deployed at major bus stands throughout the holiday season.

The crackdown is in full swing across multiple districts, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Sahiwal, among others. CM Maryam Nawaz has personally commended the efforts of Deputy Commissioners, Police, and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials for their swift action.

The Chief Minister has urged the public to pay only the government-approved fares and to report any violations. She has also directed that fare receipts be prominently displayed in vehicles and transport hubs to ensure transparency and prevent further exploitation of passengers during the festive season.
