Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan's (TLP) former candidate for the Punjab Assembly's seat from PP-171, Haji Nawaz Guddu, was injured, and his son Nadeem Haider died in an opponent group's firing during a wedding ceremony near the Sundar area, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
According to the police, the dispute between the TLP leader and the Ghulam Murtaza group emerged over following the groom's car during a wedding caravan near the Sundar area in Lahore.
The Ghulam Murtaza group opened fire on Haji Nawaz Guddu's vehicles ; as a result, the TLP leader, his wife, son Nadeem Haider, brother Nasir Ali, and bodyguard Awais were seriously injured.
The police said all the injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, for treatment. Tragically, Nadeem Haider, a university student studying law, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police said the shooting was carried out by Ghulam Murtaza and his accomplices, who are relatives of Nawaz.
The incident followed an earlier verbal clash between the two groups during a wedding ceremony in Raiwind, police said, adding that tensions reignited later when an argument broke out again over a vehicle driving behind the groom's car.
This led to a physical confrontation during which the suspects opened fire on the vehicles of Haji Nawaz Guddu. The police have taken three suspects into custody in connection with the shooting.
According to the FIR, suspects Malik Murtaza, Ali Murtaza, Tahir, Khizar, Ansar, Asad, and Hamza were named in the shooting, which took place as two cars carrying Nawaz Guddu and his family came under attack.
