ECP taking to task officials involved in Daska by-polls fraud

The Election Commission has issued the written decision in the light of Daska by-election inquiry report. All the persons involved in the crime will get through departmental action and criminal proceedings.

The commission sought drafts of criminal complaints from the departments concerned as well as recommendations for setting up inquiry committees for departmental action.

A couple of days ago, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif wrote a letter to the chief election commissioner (CEC) for making a request to the commission to move court against ‘all characters behind fraud’ involving overnight disappearance of about 20 presiding officers.

The PML-N leader called for legal action against the officers and staff involved in the crime and exposing those in the federal and provincial governments responsible for giving illegal instructions.

The opposition leader suggested amendments to the act, election rules, code of conduct and procedures in consultation with political parties to avert such irregularities in future.
