The Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday declared the marriage of a 13-year-old Christian girl valid under the Christian Marriage Act, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The court of Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh made the decision on the plea of Nasreen –the mother of teen bride Aliza.

The Child Marriage Act 1919 does not abolish child marriage the court ruled.

According to Nasreen Bibi, her daughter tied the knot without her father’s permission which is mandatory for marriage.

The court declared that the marriage could not be annulled on the ground of the given reason.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh stated that international treaties do not accept child marriage but also do not terminate the marriage.

Whereas under the Christian Marriage Act, the age of a girl to be married should be above 13 years.
