Punjab Prosecutor General urges swift action on 362,000 pending cases

A special meeting was convened on Friday at the Prosecutor General's Office in Punjab to address the backlog of pending case files, reporter 24NewsHD TV channel.   


The session was chaired by Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah and attended by DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar, Lahore District Public Prosecutor, and other key legal officials from various districts.


The meeting focused on strategies to expedite the submission of 362,000 pending challans to the trial courts.


During the meeting, DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar provided a detailed briefing on the status of challan submissions to the trial courts.


Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah stressed the urgency of the situation, revealing that 135,000 challans had already been submitted to the trial courts within the last two months.


He further issued directives for the rapid upload of roadmaps for 20,000 additional challans, instructing all prosecutors to ensure that older cases are filed without delay.


The meeting underscored the critical importance of timely submission of challans and the recording of witness statements.


Syed Farhad Ali Shah stressed that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.


“The delay in these submissions has led to multiple court appearances by DIG Investigation before the Lahore High Court.”


Legal experts attending the meeting highlighted that the prompt filing of challans is essential for ensuring timely justice for plaintiffs, thereby reducing the burden on the legal system and improving the efficiency of the courts.


The DIG Investigation assured the attendees that the police department would complete and submit the pending challans to the trial courts as swiftly as possible.
