Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s 95th birth anniversary today

Special ceremonies will be organised throughout the country by the Jiyalas to observe the 95th birth anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, former prime minister and the founder of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was born on January 5, 1928. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1950 with a degree in political science.

In 1952, he received a master’s degree in law from the University of Oxford. In the same year, he passed the bar exam from Middle Temple, London.

After completing his studies, he became a lawyer, and for some time, he was a lecturer of constitutional law at Muslim Law College, Karachi.

Bhutto was the commerce minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Feroz Khan Noon under President Sikandar Mirza’s democratic government.

From 1958 to 1965, he was the minister for foreign affairs and commerce in the cabinet of President Ayub Khan.

He founded Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in December 1967. In the general elections of 1970, the PPP gained a significant victory in West Pakistan.

In December 1971, General Yahya Khan handed over the affairs of government to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He held the office of President from December 1971 to August 13, 1973. On August 14, 1973, he was sworn in as Prime Minister under the new Constitution.

After the fall of Dhaka, Bhutto healed the wounds of the defeated nation. The Shimla Agreement with India was the pinnacle of his diplomacy.

The Constitution of Pakistan, unification of Muslim Ummah, Pakistan-China friendship, and nuclear programme were the important feats of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
