Following strong opposition by children’s parents, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training on Saturday withdrew  the notification issued for launching dance competitions in the National Education Programme-administered government schools under the UNESCO’s Dance for Education campaign, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The UNESCO had asked the government to issue the notification under which the administrations of these schools had been asked to arrange dance competitions for the students, both boys and girls, and then upload them on social media.

However, this did not go down well with the parents of these children who termed it against the Islamic values and norms.

The campaign, coinciding with the release of the song “Education in the Air” by Goodwill Ambassador A’Salfo and Magic System, is aimed at highlighting education’s transformative power and its role in shaping a more just and sustainable world.

However, social media users expressed disappointment and frustration with the ministry’s endorsement of the campaign.
