The Sindh High Court on Monday reserved judgement on a petition seeking pension benefits by a university professor whose services were regularized after 37 years, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

SHC Justice Iqbal Kulhoro heard the petition filed by Arifa Siddiqui.

The lawyer of the petitioner told the court that Ms Siddiqui had been teaching in the Karachi University for the last 34 years. But she was working on contract basis and her services were regularized only in 2018.

Lawyer Dr Rana said that since her client’s services were regularized only five years ago, the Karachi University was not paying her the pension benefits.

The judge asked the university registrar why they regularized the services of a teacher in 2018 when she had been working there since 1987.

The judge remarked that the Supreme Court in its judgement had ruled that the past service years of the contractual employees should also be taken into account.

The lawyer pleaded with the court to announce its verdict in the case as an 18-member syndicate of the university would have to decide about the service years of a contractual employee.

The court, however, reserved its judgement.
