The Government of Punjab has ordered the closure of Lahore Zoo for a substantial three-month period to facilitate crucial upgrades and enhancements, as reported by 24News HD TV Channel on Monday.
According to the channel, Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued the directive to ensure the optimal safety and welfare of the animals and to introduce new additions to the zoo.
Though the government announced to close the zoo to visitors from November 7, 2023, but the zoo management shut it down unscheduled today (Monday, Nov 06) which embarrassed tourists especially kids who reached there to see the wild animals.
This sudden closure took many visitors by surprise, as the Lahore Zoo was open in the morning but abruptly shut its gates at 11 o'clock following the received order.
Tourists from various cities who had made their way to the zoo expressed their disappointment and grievances. Had the decision been communicated a day earlier, many visitors might have adjusted their plans accordingly.
The closure has left children eager to see the zoo's tigers and other attractions in dismay.
However, the government has reiterated that the temporary shutdown is necessary to carry out essential construction and renovation work.
The Lahore Zoo is now anticipated to reopen its doors to the public on Feb 1, 2024, with a rejuvenated and improved experience for all visitors.
