Corona caseload builds up as Pakistan reports 1,293 infections

The coronavirus cases have again started to gradually build up in Pakistan amid strong indications of the fifth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic as the Omicron variant is spreading fast in the county. 

According to the statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Friday morning, there were 1,293 new infections and six deaths from the coronavirus in the country during the last 24 hours (Thursday).

The latest figures released by the NCOC suggested that after the addition of six new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 28,961 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,301,141 after adding the fresh 1,293 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Thursday), 51,145 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 2.52 percent. The number of patients in critical care was 609.

During the last 24 hours (Thursday), as many as 239 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,258,086. As of Friday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 14,094.

As many as 484,985 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 446,676 in Punjab, 181,614 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 109,093 in Islamabad, 33,655 in Balochistan, 34,689 in Azad Kashmir and 10,429 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 13,077 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 7,678 in Sindh, 5,941 in KP, 967 in Islamabad, 746 in Azad Kashmir, 366 in Balochistan and 186 in Gilgit Baltistan.
